DART of PHYSICS Blog
Thank you!
It has been eight amazing weeks for DART of Physics. We've loved talking to you about science, and hearing your favourite songs, jokes, and ideas, and we hope you've enjoyed the blog, website, and of course the ads on the trains! Those ads will be coming down this week, but we're still around on twitter and facebook, and we will still post to the blog from time to time.
So please let us know what you thought of the campaign, and if there's... Continue reading
Plants Know Physics Better Than We Do
Quantum physics is odd. Really odd. Particles can be in two places at once, behavior can depend on whether or not you’re looking (think the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who), and the ever popular “spooky action at a distance” – quantum entanglement – allows two objects to be connected no matter how far apart they are.
The reason these behaviors don’t show up in our daily lives is that they are delicate and largely irrelevant for objects as large as you and me. Typically, physicists need to go to very low temperatures and length scales of tens of nanometers (that’s a billionth of a... Continue reading
The Sound of Science

Animated DARTs of Physics
Our creative partners at Language have animated the twelve physics statements we put up on the DART! There's a brief visualisation of each of the following:
Science Songs?
There are a lot of great songs about science and scientists, or that have scientific themes! Here's one of our favourites:
Got any preferred science songs of your own? Let us know in comments and we'll post a roundup tomorrow!
Ten Hundred Words of Science
Do you use the same words to talk to your friends, your parents, and your nieces and nephews? Probably not, both for reasons of politeness, and because different people have different vocabularies and ways of communicating. So what if you tried explaining something you do everyday in the Up-Goer Five text editor, which only allows you to use the thousand most commonly used words in the English language?
Many scientists have done so, and submitted descriptions of their jobs using only these words to a collection called... Continue reading
